The 2009 floods in the metro Atlanta area affected hundreds of individuals and families across the region. With your help, we have begun to address the urgent and basic needs of these flood victims.
Case management and financial assistance
United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta established case management and financial assistance for some of the most vulnerable populations that were affected, including those with special needs such as the elderly and disabled. We also assisted others with special circumstances such as those with crippling losses not covered by insurance, FEMA, SBA or personal funds. Click here for a listing of organizations chosen to handle case management and financial assistance for United Way in the metro Atlanta counties most affected. People in counties not listed should contact Jan McDaniel.
Long-term recovery
Recovery from a major disaster such as widespread flooding often times take up to a year or longer. Generally, local emergency management agencies, FEMA, Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD) or United Way will convene community leaders to assist citizens in recovering from a disaster on a long-term basis. This consortium of community leaders works to match voluntary agency sources and/or local sources for goods and services with those who lost homes and property.
