United Way Women's Legacy

Getting involved
Women's Legacy of United Way makes it easy for you to get involved through leadership, fundraising and advocacy.

Leadership

Receive training about how to serve on a nonprofit board through United Way's Volunteer Involvement Program.

Community Investment Volunteer

Each year United Way recruits hundreds of volunteers to make community investment decisions. These volunteers review funding proposals, conduct site visits of non-profit organizations, and ultimately recommend where United Way dollars should be invested in the community. To become a community investment volunteer, contact Gail Conyers (gconyers@unitedwayatlanta.org).

Fundraising

In order to join Women's Legacy, women are asked to donate a minimum of $1,000 to United Way. First time gifts of $1,000 are matched 100 percent by Northside Hospital and Arthur and Stephanie Blank. Women business owners are eligible for a 100 percent match by UPS. Click here to donate.

WINGS Women's Initiative Next Generation

In an effort to engage younger women in community change, women age 40 or younger can join WINGS (Women's Initiative Next Generation) by contacting Natalie Evans. WINGS provides an important forum for women to learn about community involvement, charitable giving and civic leadership.

Advocacy

Your voice can make big things happen. In a caring community, individuals make their voice heard when important issues are under consideration. Advocating on behalf of key legislation is one of the many ways United Way gets things done in metro Atlanta. Here are a couple of places to begin.

The Women's Policy Group is dedicated to public policy that supports women and their families. The Women's Policy Group organizes an annual forum each November, The Women's Assembly, to educate women about the upcoming legislative session. United Way has been a proud sponsor of the Assembly.

Smart Start Georgia was established as the Georgia Early Learning Initiative (GELI) in 1999 to develop and implement a long-term plan to increase school readiness in Georgia with the aim of having all children ready to succeed in school by the time they enter kindergarten. To learn more about how you can advocate to improve the quality of early care and education for all children ages birth through five, contact: Sharen Hausmann (info@smartstartga.org)

Technical Assistance

Many of our grantee organizations submit requests for technical assistance. If you would like to serve as a consultant to a non-profit organization using your expertise, contact Bentley Marane at bmarane@unitedwayatlanta.org.
