The United Way African American Partnership invites you to become involved in the work of keeping our community safe and strong, a job that takes everyone—only everyone—working together. Get involved—volunteer or donate today.
Atlanta ranks first in the nation with the most African Americans who are members of the United Way Tocqueville Society, giving $10,000 or more a year to United Way. Hundreds more honor Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, a great United Way champion—and past chair of the United Way of America Board of Governors—by contributing $1,000 or more annually to the United Way Cole Society named for her.
United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta is a community impact organization—we mobilize the caring power of the community to help one another by making lasting improvements on human care issues.
A few of our initiatives include...
Homelessness—United Way heads the Regional Commission on Homelessness, and this past July joined forces with community partners to open the 24/7 Gateway Homeless Services Center—the cornerstone in the effort to end chronic homelessness in metro Atlanta by 2013.
Children and youth—Smart Start Georgia, a United Way public/private partnership, works toward systemic change in the early child care industry to make sure children start school ready to learn.
Unemployment—United Way recently hosted the largest job fair in Georgia's history with more than 15,000 job seekers attending.
Unexpected needs—In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, United Way provided additional funds for relief and resettlement efforts and became the central organizer for community efforts to support evacuees relocating to metro Atlanta. Through Neighbors Helping Neighbors, United Way continues to work with our new neighbors on issues such as housing, employment, child care and more.
It's our community. Let's claim it!
