Atlanta Falcons and United Way teamed up with Senior Connections for annual Hometown Huddle

The Atlanta Falcons and United Way joined with Senior Connections for a day of volunteering and community service at the DeKalb/Atlanta Senior Center as part of the annual Hometown Huddle on Tuesday, October 10, 2006. This year, Falcons players Adam Jennings (WR), Boone Stutz (LS) and Jimmy Williams (CB) volunteered with students from the Drew Charter Elementary School for a day filled with interactive games, arts and crafts, and exercise with seniors at the DeKalb/Atlanta Senior Center.
This day of volunteering brought together players, children and seniors to emphasize healthy living and community service for all ages.

"Hometown Huddle annually provides opportunities for the Atlanta Falcons organization to strengthen our commitment to all facets of this community," said Scott Doll, executive director of the Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation. "This year presented a unique collaboration that allowed three generations to join together for a day of volunteerism and service to the Atlanta community."

During Hometown Huddle, Atlanta Falcons players and local elementary school youth participated in chair aerobics, arts and crafts and tai chi with seniors.

"Senior Connections is thrilled that United Way and the Atlanta Falcons made the seniors at the DeKalb/Atlanta Senior Center the focus of this year's Hometown Huddle, "said Debra Furtado, Senior Connections chief executive officer. "It was a tremendous opportunity that called attention to the needs facing Atlanta's senior population as well as to the exciting work Senior Connections is doing. The seniors were incredibly excited not only to have received a visit from the Falcons, but were eager to interact with the children as well."
The Atlanta Falcons partner annually with the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta to implement Hometown Huddle projects throughout the Atlanta community. This league-wide day of community service and volunteerism provides meaningful opportunities for NFL players, coaches and staff to make a difference in communities across the country.

"Building personal relationships is the most powerful way to strengthen our community," said Mark O'Connell, president of United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta. "Hometown Huddle gives young people a chance to do both, build new relationships through volunteerism and to benefit from the new friendships they will form with older adults and with the Atlanta Falcons."
