For anyone seeking or wishing to give help, 2-1-1 is the premier one-stop service. 2-1-1 is the dialing code designated
by the Georgia Public Service Commission in 1997 and later by the Federal Communications Commission for community
information and referral. United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta pioneered service in 1997 and is one of the largest
2-1-1 call centers in the nation, fully accredited by the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS). Last
year, we connected more than 340,000 callers to the right service at the right time, confidentially and in multiple
languages. Our searchable, up-to-date database of more 3,500 agencies is available on the web, allowing another 67,000

Appropriate $3 million to the State Housing Trust Fund for the Homeless to stabilize the homeless in supportive
housing.
At the encouragement of the White House Interagency Council on Homelessness, over 300 cities and counties across
the nation accepted the challenge to end homelessness within 10 years. Governor Perdue pledged support by creating
the Georgia Interagency Homeless Coordination Council and United Way Metropolitan Atlanta rose to Mayor Shirley
Franklin's request for concerted leadership by convening a Regional Commission on Homelessness, which now includes
participation by seven county governments in addition to the City of Atlanta.
