Metro Atlanta Evacuee Resettlement Network

First conference

Resettlement plan
On Tuesday, September 6, 2005, United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta hosted a meeting of the Metro Atlanta Evacuee Resettlement Network (MAERN) to aid evacuees relocating to metro Atlanta in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The summit was held in The Loudermilk Center from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and attended by more than 200 participants representing faith, government and nonprofit partners. Carl Swearingen (chair, Operation Helping Hand) and Paula Rosput Reynolds (CEO, AGL Resources and United Way Board chair) addressed attendees. Participants met as a large group and then broke up into smaller working groups based on subject area.

Second conference

On Friday, December 2, 2005, United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta hosted the second conference of the Metro Atlanta Evacuee Resettlement Network (MAERN) for service providers, government, the faith community and others aiding evacuees relocating to metro Atlanta in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The summit was held in The Loudermilk Center from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and attended by more than 170 participants representing almost 100 faith, government and nonprofit partners. Participants met as a large group and then broke into smaller working groups based on subject area.

Third conference

On Friday, January 27, 2006, United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta hosted the third conference of the Metro Atlanta Evacuee Resettlement Network (MAERN) for service providers, government, the faith community and others aiding evacuees relocating to metro Atlanta in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Participants met as a large group and then broke into smaller working groups based on subject area. The primary focus of this meeting was housing.
