Released from jail with little money and no place to call home, Fred Thomas knew he was also short on luck.

Fortunately, fellow inmates had told him about Harmony House in Cobb County. For the sake of his two children,
and his own, he decided to make his own luck.
It wasn't easy. Fred described this time of his life as hopeless. Fred knew he was unemployed and close to
homelessness, but didn't realize he was an alcoholic. Harmony House, a United Way community partner, provided
Fred with basic necessities, and the staff helped him obtain his driver's license and social security card
and find a job. Most importantly, Harmony House helped Fred confront his drinking problem, surrounding him
with mentors and friends he could trust.

"It turned my life around!" Fred exclaimed. "I was able to get my life back and find my true self." Harmony
House offered Fred the stable home environment he needed, along with the encouragement and support, to become
a better father. Now a graduate of Harmony House, Fred is a full-time supervisor at a $20 million construction
project. He remains deeply involved with Harmony House, mentoring people facing the same problems he once did.
Now the twelfth of every month represents another month of sobriety. "It's a miracle. The whole experience
changed my life. I just ran with it!"
