When Elnora Strickland began volunteering at the Child Development Association (CDA) in the late 1960s,
she had no idea it would fire a passion for early childhood education.

Today Elnora is a veteran preschool teacher at the CDA, with a particular talent for arts and crafts.
Children, however, are still what she enjoys shaping the most.
The Child Development Association, a United Way community partner, provides families with low-cost education
for their children age five and younger. The purpose of the CDA is to ensure all children are ready to start
kindergarten on time, regardless of any linguistic or economic challenges they may face. Elnora shares this
commitment. "Early childhood education is so important because it gives the child a head start on the basics
of being successful in life."

Elnora, who sets up the creative learning environment at the CDA each day, cannot emphasize enough the
importance of the parent/teacher relationship at the CDA. "When the parents help reinforce what their
children learn in the CDA, it makes a big difference for the children to see the world around them."
Had she not gotten involved with the Child Development Association, Elnora might have channeled her
artistic gifts toward animation. Thankfully, the young minds of North Fulton are what she has chosen
to bring to life.
