Do you enjoy working with kids, getting your hands dirty and making things grow? If so, the Garden Guru is the opportunity for you! Garden Gurus assist with the upkeep of our Education Gardens, which offers children from Clayton County the opportunity to learn about planting, growing, and harvesting plants. In addition to maintaining the garden, Garden Gurus will offer children the chance to assist in their work by providing garden education and interpretation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain Education Gardens by performing tasks such as seeding, planting, weeding, mulching, pruning of fruit trees and harvesting as outlined by the managing organization.
  • Answer any questions about the Education Garden.
  • Offer children the opportunity to assist in the garden and supervise their work.
  • Assist with special garden events and programming as needed.
  • Work in collaboration with on site gardeners.

Qualifications:

  • Must undergo and pass a federal and state criminal background check
  • Gardening experience and knowledge, or an interest in learning.
  • Education skills.
  • Willingness and interest in working with the children.
  • Ability to work well with others, accept supervision, and remain flexible.

Training:

  • Attend volunteer staff orientation and training sessions.
  • Shadow experienced garden staff.
