Motel to Home: Amani’s Story

September 30, 2024

Amani, a single mother with a 5-year-old daughter, moved from Pennsylvania to Georgia in 2023 to escape an unhealthy relationship. Despite securing a job before her move, she struggled with the higher cost of living and had difficulty finding affordable housing. Amani ended up living in motels, which made it even harder to save for apartment application fees and move-in expenses. Due to her instability, she had to share custody of her daughter with her mother.

A neighbor at the motel noticed Amani’s situation and directed her to the Motel to Home website. Frontline Housing stepped in, paying a portion of her move-in fees and fully furnishing her living room. Amani has now secured housing and regained full custody of her daughter.

After moving into her new home, Amani joined the Financial Achievement Club program, attending 12 financial literacy workshops and increasing her savings each month. She graduated with $1,100 in her emergency savings and feels more financially secure. Amani looks forward to giving back to Motel to Home by donating the furniture she received and purchasing her own.
