United Way of Greater Atlanta is delighted to invite you to our upcoming event focused on food accessibility challenges in the Southern Crescent region.

Come hear from community leaders and participate in a discussion on innovative solutions to food security, while we highlight programs that increase access to healthy foods on May 15th.

Food security, according to the 1996 World Food Summit, is defined when all people have physical and economic access to sufficient safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.

United Way of Greater Atlanta’s Child Well-Being Index data highlights a significant issue with food accessibility across the Southern Crescent region. Food accessibility is crucial for the well-being and health of residents, especially for families with children. Food Accessibility is defined as the percentage of housing with limited access to a supermarket more than 1 mile away.

 At this event, you will:

  • Gain valuable insights, including learning the current landscape, key challenges, and innovative strategies for improving food accessibility.
  • Engage in a dynamic panel discussion featuring local residents, community leaders, and experts. Hear firsthand experiences, diverse perspectives, and grassroots initiatives aimed at addressing food accessibility issues in our region. Panelists include:
    • Dr. Angela Horrison-Collier, Director of Student Services, Clayton County Public Schools
    • Jasmine Crowe Houston, Founder and CEO, Goodr
    • Wande Okunoren-Meadows, Co-Creator and Executive Director, Hand, Heart and Soul Project
  • Participate in interactive table discussions focused on specific aspects of food accessibility, such as urban farming, nutrition education, food distribution networks, policy advocacy, and more. Collaborate with peers, share best practices, and explore actionable solutions.

United Way of Greater Atlanta’s InForum Series is an open forum and discussion panel event that promotes dialogue and collaboration amongst community leaders regarding the Child Well-Being Index.
