Book Buddies is a virtual reading program that was developed in response to the pandemic to continue to support literacy development in elementary aged students. Students read online twice per week with a virtual volunteer as well as independently throughout the week. Reading hours are tracked and students receive incentives based on the number of hours they have read. Because we are working with young children, each volunteer must undergo a background check.

Book Buddies runs Monday – Thursday from 4-7. Volunteers are asked to sign up for a minimum of two sessions so they can be paired with the same student for both sessions each week to increase the chances of a successful mentoring match.

WHAT YOU DO

• Register as a volunteer below
• Attend a virtual training
• Sign up for a minimum of 2 weekly 30 minute sessions
• Assist your reader during your session (help with words, discuss the book, etc)

• An opportunity to have a direct impact on an elementary aged student
• The opportunity to be a role model and help a student learn to love reading

GOALS OF BOOK BUDDIES

• To ensure every student in our program reads on or above grade level
• To provide students with a volunteer mentor, to be a positive role model in the student’s life
• To increase/instill a love for reading in all Book Buddies families
