A closer look at the leadership, passion, and purpose behind her service as an African-American Partnership Cabinet member
Southern Company Gas Facilities Project Coordinator Krystal Caldwell

From leadership to mentorship, AAP Cabinet member Krystal Caldwell is helping shape a stronger future for Black youth across Greater Atlanta. We asked her to share what motivates their service and what AAP means to them.

Tell us about your role at Southern Company Gas and how you impact the company’s strategic goals?

As a Facilities Project Coordinator at Southern Company Gas, I help keep our buildings running smoothly and support projects that make our workspaces safe, efficient, and sustainable.

I coordinate with teams, vendors, and contractors to plan and deliver facility upgrades and maintenance on time and within budget. My work helps employees stay productive and comfortable while supporting company goals around safety, reliability, and cost efficiency.

What advice would you give to someone wanting a career in Facilities Operation and Maintenance?

If you’re interested in Facilities Operations and Maintenance, be curious and willing to learn. Understand how building systems work and develop strong communication skills—teamwork is key.

Always prioritize safety and attention to detail and stay open to new technology and sustainability practices. This field is about problem-solving and creating safe, efficient spaces that help people do their best work, so take pride in the impact you make every day.

You have a long list of experience volunteering and mentoring in the community. What first sparked your interest in philanthropy and why did you become an AAP Cabinet member?

My interest in philanthropy started with a genuine desire to give back to the communities that have supported me, as well as being a mother of African- American boys in this new generation. Early volunteer experiences showed me how even small efforts—mentoring youth, supporting local initiatives, or organizing events—can make a big difference.

Over time, I realized that service isn’t just about helping others; it’s about building stronger, more connected communities. Becoming an AAP Cabinet member felt like a natural next step—it allows me to collaborate with others who share that passion and help drive meaningful programs that create lasting impact.

You have mentored others in the community, what advice would you give to a younger Krystal Caldwell?

I’d tell a younger Krystal to trust herself and the process. Every experience, even the tough ones, helps shape who you’re meant to be. Keep showing up, keep learning, and don’t be afraid to take chances.

Most importantly, lead with kindness and purpose—because the impact you make on others will always come back to you in meaningful ways.

Who is your favorite American trailblazer that serves as a source of inspiration to you?

Booker T. Washington and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Please share your favorite restaurant or vacation destination.

Canada is one of my favorite vacation destinations.

Thank you !
