Tell us about your role at AT&T and how you impact the company’s strategic goals?

As a Lead in Sourcing Management for AT&T Mass Markets Supply Chain & Operational Efficiencies, I support the Global Supply Chain. I drive the company’s strategic vision by negotiating optimal costs and securing top-tier supplier products. My efforts enhance connectivity for our consumers, ensuring they experience cutting-edge technology and seamless communication, propelling our company towards innovation and excellence.

What advice would you give to someone wanting a career in supply chain sourcing?

Never settle for just a degree—let your journey be one of relentless pursuit and purposeful growth. Commit to continuous education and self-improvement, becoming a master in market dynamics, logistics, supply chain management, data security, sustainability, and contract management. Hone your negotiation skills to perfection. Embrace a lean and agile mindset to safeguard and enhance your company’s investments. Strive for excellence and let your dedication to learning and innovation propel you to new heights.

You have a long list of experience volunteering and mentoring in the community. What first sparked your interest in philanthropy and why did you become an AAP Cabinet member?

I am driven by a deep commitment to leveraging my talents, resources, and network to help alleviate the educational disparities facing African-American boys. I firmly believe that the future of our community is as bright as the current opportunities available to our youth. I am inspired by the vision of a prosperous and harmonious society where every African-American boy has the chance to reach his full potential. Through the Powering the Potential program, I have witnessed firsthand how United Way AAP plants the seeds in the minds of young people, guiding them towards an exciting path to becoming successful adults. Supporting this cause means making dreams a reality for many young men in our community. I hope that our community of corporate leaders recognizes the importance of philanthropy and the vital role it plays in uplifting our youth in the Greater Atlanta area. Through professional development, personal growth, and educational support, we can make a lasting impact.

You have mentored others in the community, what advice would you give to a younger Fran Merritt?

Chase and endure your passion. Always give yourself grace. It’s never about you, its about the people you serve.
